Stray(nger) I’m an angel from another sphere Like a stranger stranded here and forgot my identity Have all the angelic attributes I’m gracious and I’m brave and sometimes I’m depraved I’m a stranger in a stranger’s shell How I came here I cannot tell I’m a stranger in a mystery Illusions hit me every day Cause I’m a stray I’m a stray My heart is a living book I write a chapter every day and wonder ’bout the oddities I’m honest and I’m reasonable I’m lovingly and bold and sometimes darker sides unfold I’m a stranger in a strange body Believing in the things I see I’m a stranger on vacation Without a destination is my way I’m a stranger in a lottery winners there are only few I’m a stranger in a giant park Alone I can’t get through I’m a stray I’m a stray I’m a stranger

Soul in transit? The Halo Trees ask big questions in their new single “Stray(nger)”

With the video and single “Stray(nger)”, The Halo Trees not only celebrate their debut with new label partner COP International but also present the first song from the upcoming album “Where The Deep Ends”, which will be released in the first half of 2024. The Berlin band, which describes its sound as Deep Dark Indie Rock and is influenced by genres such as Post-Punk, Indie Rock, and Post-Rock, shows its brighter side in the track, as "Stray(nger)" emphasizes the Indie component of the band's sound. It is a poppy and catchy, but also subtly weird track with lyrics that are based on a thought experiment, as singer and guitarist Sascha Blach explains:

“One of the central questions I'm constantly asking myself in my life and trying to penetrate is the question of the higher meaning of all this. The lyrics of 'Stray(nger)' are based on the idea of often feeling like a stranger in this world. As if you actually belong somewhere else. The text plays out the idea that the soul is only passing through here on earth - that this on the one hand beautiful, on the other hand terribly cruel planet is just a stopover on a much larger journey. Unfortunately, when I entered this dimension I had to forget everything that came before, and therefore I don't know whether it's really like that or whether it's just a silly mind game in the end."

The track was complemented by an instrumental version as well as an electronic version for which Sascha Blach developed a completely new song arrangement based on synthesizers and drum machines that replace guitar, bass, and drums. “Stray(nger)” is available now in all streaming and download stores as well as via the COP International Bandcamp shop (copinternational.bandcamp.com). There is also a video clip based on an experiment. Right before the video shoot, Sascha asked his fellow musicians - none of them dancers - to perform the song in dance. Everyone had exactly one run-through and no one knew in advance what to expect, so the moment and the immediate feeling were captured as spontaneously as possible. A very simple idea, but it led to a very fascinating video.

A mixture of indie-rock, pop, wave and post-rock with many tom-toms, melodic basslines, atmospheric guitars, catchy violin and sonorous, warm vocals. ... more
