about

In April we promised you 5 singles in 5 months and here is the fourth one - all those singles will not (!) be on the next album. “Flicker In The Dark” is a rough up-tempo Indie Rock track with some Post-Punk vibes. A rather unusual song for The Halo Trees, which will therefore not be on the upcoming album, but which we still wanted to release. That's why it's available as part of our 5 songs in 5 months campaign, where we don't take it too seriously when it comes to faithfulness to our usual style.

lyrics

I am trying to imagine the unseen
I am trying to perceive
the mortal smiles of yours that did not last
Faded echoes of the past

Your face is just a shadow of a memory long ago
Your face left emptiness

Not more than a flickering
Not more than a flickering
Not more than a flicker in the dark

Dancing shadows of a secret energy
of an origin unseen
Tremendous memories have been smashed, smashed, smashed
throughout the ages, earthly queen

Your smile just an echo of a dream that I once dreamt
Your smile is lost in space

Not more than a flickering
Not more than a flickering
Not more than a flicker in the dark

I push the clouds aside
To see things clear again
Was it my fantasy
Or just a vision

Your beauty’s just whisper of forgotten energy
Your beauty is just dust

Not more than a flickering
Not more than a flickering
Not more than a flicker in the dark

The Halo Trees, that’s deep, melancholic music with plenty of room for the voice and handmade instrumentation. A comforting sound universe, inspired by David Bowie, Editors, Mark Lanegan, The National or Nick Cave. A mixture of indie-rock, pop, wave and post-rock with many tom-toms, melodic basslines, atmospheric guitars, catchy violin and sonorous, warm vocals. ... more
